  • Have Iraq’s Chemical Weapons Been Found in Syria?

As New York Times reports today on some 100 chemical weapons sites in Syria, I am reminded of a journalist in Cyprus second sourcing a story I was told in 2003 while in Iraq.

The story goes that Iraqi locals watched convoys of trucks leaving from locations later searched for chemical weapons, the convoy driving into Syria. Will US intelligence be vindicated by investigation of the sources of what is found in Syrian chemical weapons sites?

Might there be mustard gas from the Iran Iraq war, will anthrax be found, as suspected in a Swiss transfer intelligence services observed, will other equally dangerous and dark market gold need to be secured? Has current Syrian leadership an understanding that together with renouncing terrorism, comes the axiom that weapons of mass destruction need be kept under control of state actors, accountable and with vested interests in global peace?
